Baked pasta ingredients.
  • Pasta: Use any pasta you like—spaghetti, penne, or whatever you have on hand. Leftover pasta works great too!
  • Canned Miso Mackerel: Mackerel fillets cooked in a savory-sweet miso sauce. It’s a handy pantry item packed with flavor and protein—perfect for quick meals.
  • Cabbage & Tomato: Cabbage turns soft and sweet when baked, and tomatoes add a juicy, tangy kick.
  • Cheese: Melts on top to make everything extra cozy and delicious. Mozzarella, cheddar, or your favorite mix all work well.
  • Salt: Just a pinch to season the veggies.

Recipe Tips

  • If you’re using leftover pasta, toss it with a little olive oil to loosen it up before baking.
  • Keep an eye on the baking time—the top can brown fast, so don’t let it burn.
  • If you want to add more vegetables, spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini all work great.
  • Make ahead! Prep the dish in advance, then add the canned mackerel just before baking.

What To Serve With

To complement this baked pasta, I recommend serving it with pickled eggplant, tomato avocado salad, and daikon soup with egg.
