Tomato somen noodles ingredients.
  • Tomatoes: Use fresh, ripe, and juicy tomatoes.
  • Somen Noodles: These thin Japanese noodles are available at most Japanese grocery stores. If you canโ€™t find them, feel free to substitute with other thin noodles.
  • Mentsuyu: A savory Japanese noodle soup base. I use store-bought mentsuyu for convenience, but you can also make it from scratchโ€”check out this mentsuyu recipe.
  • Olive Oil: Adds a rich, smooth flavor that pairs well with the tomato and garlic.
  • Grated Garlic: I use store-bought grated garlic to save time, but you can also grate fresh garlic if you prefer.

Somen Noodles

Somen noodles are skinny, white Japanese noodles made from wheat flour. They are often served cold, especially during the hot summer months. Due to their long, thin shape, somen noodles are also a traditional gift in Japan. They symbolize a wish for long-lasting relationships.
