Seafood and lettuce fried rice ingredients.
  • Seafood: You can use fresh seafood or a frozen seafood mix. I used a frozen mix with shrimp, squid, and clams in this recipe.
  • Lettuce: I used iceberg lettuce, the most common type in Japan. Other varieties, such as romaine, also work great for this salad.
  • Sesame Oil: Adds a nutty aroma and authentic flavor. You can use other cooking oils, but sesame oil is highly recommended.
  • Cooked Rice: Leftover rice is ideal for making fried rice. I used frozen rice and reheated it before cooking.
  • Soy Sauce, Salt, and Pepper to season the rice.

Recipe Tips

  • If using frozen seafood mix, thaw it completely and pat dry with paper towels before cooking.
  • Leftover rice or frozen rice works best for fried rice. Just warm it up before stir-frying.
  • Use a large frying pan or wok to ensure the ingredients cook evenly and stir-fry properly.

Variations

Here are more tasty fried rice ideas to try:

  • Vegetarian Chahan: Skip the seafood and keep it plant-based with just vegetables and seasonings.
  • Natto Chahan: A must-try for natto lovers! Stir in natto for extra texture and flavor.
  • Garlic Fried Rice with Umeboshi: Add minced garlic and chopped umeboshi (pickled plum) for a punch of flavor with a tangy twist.

What To Serve With

To complement this seafood and lettuce fried rice, I recommend serving it with okra fries with soy sauce flavor, daikon salad, and egg miso soup.
