Recipe Tips

  • Soak the rice in water for at least 30 minutes for fluffy rice to help it absorb moisture. You can also soak them overnight and cook them the next day. It’s best to soak the rice in the refrigerator if the room temperature is high.
  • When the rice reaches a boil, stir it to distribute the heat evenly.
  • Wait to open the lid right after cooking. Let the rice rest for 10 minutes to soak up the water in the pot, making it fluffy.

Storage and Reheating

To prevent rice from drying out in the refrigerator, I recommend freezing it. Wrap each portion in plastic wrap, place them in a freezer bag, and store them in the freezer for up to one month. When ready to eat, warm it up in the microwave.

What To Serve With

To complement this Daikon Takikomi Gohan, I recommend serving it with egg miso soup, nukazuke, lotus root salad, and vegetarian oden!
