What is UTSUWABI?
UTSUWABI (affiliate link) is an online store that offers traditional Japanese tableware by artisans from all over Japan and ships worldwide. With over 75 years of experience in the Japanese tableware industry, their strong connections with potters and craftspeople across the country allow them to source and develop pieces that reflect both tradition and modern-day needs.
Their website is clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate. Products are categorized by type (plates, bowls, cups, etc.), and each listing includes detailed descriptions and background information about the artisan, offering a deeper appreciation of every piece.
Items I Purchased from UTSUWABI
UTSUWABI has such a beautiful selection—I could easily spend hours browsing their site! This time, I was looking for some bowls and a tray, and here’s what I purchased:

How I Use Them
This wooden serving tray is the perfect size for a single meal. For example, I will use it for my typical Japanese breakfast, which typically includes rice, miso soup, pickles, and a few small side dishes.

It also works beautifully for a simple onigiri and miso soup set. Two rice balls fit nicely on a rectangular plate, paired with a small bowl of soup.

For the blue serving bowl, I served rice topped with tomato sauce. This bowl is also perfect for pasta, udon, or even a creamy stew.

The octagonal bowl is just the right size for serving curry rice and works wonderfully for other saucy dishes too.

Packaging
When I open a box from UTSUWABI, I’m impressed by how carefully everything is packed. You can really tell they care, especially since it’s being shipped overseas. The inside of the box is lined with air cushions on all four sides, and each item is individually wrapped to ensure its safety.
